Sonophoresis
Description
Sonophoresis involves delivering medicines — mixed with a coupling agent such as gel, cream or ointment — via ultrasound. Through the ultrasound waves, which stimulate micro-vibrations within the skin epidermis and increase the overall kinetic energy of molecules making up the topical agent, it is possible to increase the absorption of topical compounds into the epidermis, dermis and skin appendages.
Treatment types
Targeted ultrasound therapy.
Method of action
Ultrasound enhances the absorption of medicines and active ingredients by cavitation, acoustic streaming and heating.
